Favorite TV Shows #3

3. Arrested Development (2003 - 2006) - There are no words to explain to those of you that have not seen this show just how hilarious it is. There is a potential laugh out loud moment in every scene from every character. If you have never seen "Arrested Development" then I am sure you will be very surprised that it is this high on my list. On the other hand, if you have seen the show, you are probably questioning why it is not number 1. I have never spoken to anyone that has watched the show and does not think it is hysterical. "Arrested Development" has one of the biggest cult followings of any television show ever produced. Despite winning SEVEN Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe, and praise from critics, "Arrested Development" did not do well in the ratings and was yanked WAY before its time. TIME magazine has also included it in its list of the "100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. It is also on just about every other television countdown I have read in the past 5 years.

It was revealed just in October of 2011 that the show will be back for a ten episode run in early 2013 and that will be followed by the long awaited movie later in the year. If there was any way humanly possibly for me to skip a year of my life so it would be 2013 I would gladly volunteer to do so. There are not many things in my life that I have been this excited for.

To be honest, I will not even be angry at people that have never seen the show; I will be extremely jealous. You get to watch 53 episodes of pure hilarity. If anyone would like me to personally bring my DVD's to your house and have me watch them with you, I would gladly give up a weekend for that, or even take a few days out of work, whatever.

I know that I have made some impossible decisions when ranking the cast members on some of my favorite shows, but there is absolutely NO way I could ever possibly rank any of these people last, and could never choose any of them over the other. I love every single one of them and even I refuse to list them.

I will, however, try to show a small video clip of each of the main characters. Hopefully the clip will do them justice.

* Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) - Michael is the only normal person in the entire family. He is very close with his son, George Michael, as his wife died two years before we met them. Without Michael the entire family would fall apart and all of them would be either in jail, homeless, or dead.

On a side note, Jason Bateman is my second favorite living actor of all time.

I LOVE how the rest of the family (who all have major issues) think that Michael is the odd one.

* Lindsay Funke (Portia de Rossi) - Lindsay is Michael's younger sister. Her and Michael were raised for their entire life thinking they were twins, until it was revealed that she was actually adopted. She has always been filthy rich and since she doesn't need to work, she is an activist; supporting only current, and trendy issues to help her social status. Lindsay is married to Tobias, but towards the end of the series she starts to have feelings for the family's lawyer, Bob Loblaw, which is my favorite name of a fictional character of all time.

* GOB (Will Arnett) - GOB is the brother of Michael and Lindsay and is a magician by trade. GOB's only goal in life is to make his magic tricks work properly.

I should have been born into the Blute family because nobody wastes more money on useless things than myself and the Bluths. Here is GOB's Segway, which he uses often, even if it is more of a hassle than simply walking.

* George Michael Bluth (Michael Cera) - George Michael is the son of Michael Bluth. George Michael is in charge of the family's banana stand and becomes obsessed with his long lost cousin, Maeby.

* Maeby Funke - Maeby is the daughter of Lindsay and Tobias and the cousin of George Michael. Like Michael, Maeby realizes that her family is a complete mess, but instead of trying to help them out, she makes things worse for everyone on purpose.

* Buster Bluth - Wikipedia gives this hilarious description of Buster, who is probably my favorite member of the family. "Buster is immature and socially inept; but, as indicated by the narrator in Season 2, he is more intelligent than his siblings Gob and Lindsay. He has frequent panic attacks, hates both closed and open spaces, is terrified of sheep, seals and birds and is wrathful towards his Korean-born adopted brother, Annyong. Buster demonstrates various childlike nutritional sensitivities: for instance, he becomes hyper from the sugar in juice and irritable after eating cheese; he also takes frequent naps. He has an unhealthy attachment to his domineering mother Lucille; one of the running gags throughout the series is his quasi-incestuous, Oedipal complex. For her part, Lucille won't let him go in the sun, swim in the ocean, or stand on their balcony in windy weather."

I think we have all known someone like Buster in our lives.

Buster loves juice. Oh, and Buster lost his hand in season 2 and it was replaced with a hook, which led to many hilarious incidents....

* Tobias Funke - Tobias is the husband of Lindsay and father of Maeby. Tobias is often confused as being gay because of all the subtle innuendos and double-entendres that he often unknowingly makes. At the beginning of the show he realized that he had a dream to become an actor, and even landed a gig as part of the Blue Man Group for a while.

Classic. Even though he is so nice and naive, the entire family hates him and is creeped out by him, which is hilarious.

* George Bluth (Jeffrey Tambor) - The head of the Bluth family who spends most of the series locked behind bars.

* Lucille Bluth - "She treats herself to repeated spa treatments and face lifts, and is known to abuse alcohol and prescription drugs and to mistreat her housekeepers. According to the narrator, she has never made eye contact with a waiter. Lucille is extremely manipulative, narcissistic, amoral, domineering, and emotionally abusive to her children. She furtively wrests control of the Bluth Company board from Michael. She has a tight grip on her youngest son Buster, who, as a result of his mother's dominance and sheltering, is unstable, socially inept, and prone to panic attacks. She also insinuates that her daughter Lindsay is fat and lazy. She has also admitted that she never cared for Gob."

Lucille Bluth is the funniest female character I have ever seen on a TV show. Hands down.

I hate you if you don't love her.

* Anyong - The adopted Asian boy who they named "Anyong" because the first word he said to them was anyong, which means "hello" and they all thought that was his name. Now every time anyone sees him they say "anyong" and he says "anyong" back because he doesn't know its his name; he just thinks everyone is saying hello.

I highly suggest watching and re watching this epic series before it makes its triumphant return in early 2013. You have a full year to get to know the Bluth family and I guarantee that you will be anxiously awaiting January 2013 as much as I am.
