Favorite TV Show #2

2. Big Brother (2000 - Present) - For three of the twelve months of the year it is pretty safe to say I am doing one of two things; bartending or watching "Big Brother." "Big Brother has been a summertime staple for the past eleven years, and I am not sure what I would do to fill the void if it was canceled. With all the time I spend watching the show (three televised hours on CBS and 21 televised hours on Showtime 2) I could probably focus those 24 hours towards doing something productive with my life, like watching reruns of Rock Star Supernova.

Since I am obviously infamous for making lists or countdowns for just about everything, my summer is pretty much filled with emails, texts, and face-to-face conversations, which list mine and my counterparts least favorite to favorite remaining house guests. Friends, cousins, relatives, co-workers, and even strangers sitting at my bar, for some reason love listing their favorite Big Brother house guests more than any other show on television. Oftentimes my fake cousin Paul and I wasted many taxpayers dollars years ago when we were Town Beach Managers as we spent most of our working time together thoroughly ranking each remaining house guest after each and every episode. Usually the order didn't change at all, but it was very interesting how an occasional temper tantrum or meltdown could send a house guest plummeting from a coveted top 4 position to the bottom of the list in just one night. Paul, Sean, Rachel, Cory and Justine have been my heavy hitters for years when it comes to Big Brother ranking, My girlfriend, Rebecca and my friend Linda have recently been bitten by the Big Brother bug and have since joined in on the Big Bro listing tradition. Of course there is the frequent text or message from one of my college roommates (Bobby) after a particular awful house guest moment, and even my dad, Aunt Joy, Uncle Mark, and cousin Mark get in on the Big Brother house guest listing game from time to time.

My point is that Big Brother is a show that allows the American public to have strong feelings towards the Big Brother house guests. People tend to either love or hate the Big Brothers and this is probably attributed to the fact that we get to see them on CBS three nights a week, and can easily see them (uncensored) on Showtime or the internet. People feel as though they get a true sense as to who these Big Brother house guests are and can relate to them, either in a good way, or a very bad way.

I have recently become very good friends with a former Big Brother house guest, Michelle. Michelle joined us for our Tough Mudder team back in May and made a hasty, last-second decision to partake in our Spartan Race back in September. Michelle has had to endure my complaining and whining more than anybody should be subjected to. She is my right hand woman when it comes to these endurance, mud races and without her I probably would have quit Tough Mudder Vermont at mile 1. Most importantly, Michelle introduced me to what is known as some sort of Nightclub Expo back in September. It was held at Twin River casino and it was just about the greatest thing I have ever been to in my life. I have always been a sucker for free things, but free alcohol is just a dream come true. This Nightclub Expo is probably the closest thing to Heaven on Earth as I will ever experience and next year I am determined to get every person I know at the event. Look for some sort of reminder from me next September. Michelle, you knew I would love it. You know me so well. As a thank you I promise I will vote for you for America's Favorite should you ever return to the Big Bro house!

Two years ago I started an email chain with the aforementioned "list makers" and a few other friends that I knew to be Big Brother fans. There were 130 total house guests at that point and each week I would send out an email with a detailed description of my ten least favorite remaining house guests. I am not quite sure what happened, but after a month I stopped sending out the emails and I did not get to my top 80 (I clearly was not as dedicated to sharing my list making as I currently am.) I still have the lists, but they are quite mean, and certainly not appropriate for the public to hear. I am, however, considering releasing a censored version on the blog and sharing with the world my detailed description of my favorite Big Brothers of all time. I have to admit the writing was quite atrocious, but the ideas were wildly hysterical and I feel as though it would be an huge hit here on ryanscountdowns.blogspot.com . If I had more time I would do some quick editing now and consider including it right here, however, I would like to start my annual Best Music of 2011 countdowns by Tuesday and I really need to prepare for that. December is such a stressful time here at Ryan's Countdowns.

Keep your eyes peeled for my favorite Big Brothers of all Time countdown possibly coming in the Spring of 2012.

I will, surely, include some of the greatest highlights of Big Brother over the past ten eleven years. Enjoy!

WOW! First ever episode of Big Brother. A Must-Watch for any Big Brother fan.

This is pretty sweet. Every eviction and winning moment from the first 12 seasons of Big Brother. If you have absolutely nothing to do with your life for the next 11 minutes, watch this.

This is what Big Bro use to be. It is actually kind of scary to watch.

The unforgettable Techotronics fight.

BY FAR my least favorite season of Big Brother was season 9, the only season that was held in the Spring due to the writers strike. I think Big Brother is as successful as it is because it is one of the few shows that is only on one time a year. It is one of the few summer shows that people are loyal to and people look forward to it every year.

"Big Brother" has changed and evolved over the years, but the idea has stayed the same. I can't imagine myself ever getting sick of the show and if I am alive in 2050 and if the show is still on, I expect to still love the show as much as I do now, and I expect Julie Chen to look even better!
